Dear Reader,
Last week, I took a look at the unsavory side of trading earnings in recounting our Amazon.com trade experience.  To sum it up, we bought puts ahead of earnings and the stock went up 27 percent in one day.  Ouch.

Back in the prudish 1960s, the late George Carlin once noted that on television you could say that you pricked your finger, but that you couldn’t change the order of words in that sentence.
Today, we are, thankfully, not so prim or priggish.

It means that we cannot only prick our fingers we can call Andy Carpenter a “prick” as well.

This usage of “prick,” of course, is a somewhat vulgar slang term for penis.

Many people today think that vulgar means bad. But it doesn’t.

Generally it means a lack of sophistication or good taste… perhaps someone who is unrefined.

So, unless you’re a snob who looks down your nose at the vulgar masses, being unsophisticated or lacking social refinement is not necessarily a bad thing, either.

That’s why I thought nothing of Woody W.’s response to my Friday piece, last week. It’s the one I wrote in the same style that Gov. Sarah Palin speaks – the way she would speak were she, God forbid, to ascend to the US presidency – dropping the Gs at the end of words.

You know like, “Todd, them stinkin’ Eyeranians are pissin’ me off. I’m nukin’ the f***ers.”

Also, I like that Woody took me to task for pickin’ on a lady. I should have been clearer about the fact that just because she speaks in a vulgar manner in no way means Gov. Palin is not a lady.

Come on, anyone who can look good field dressing a moose is a lady, through and through.

Insiders Are Buying the Market's Most Hated Sector

By Graham Summers Things are looking bullish...The insider sales-to-purchases ratio was 13 in November. In other words, for every $13 corporate insiders took out of the market, $1 went back in.

Stock APRJ has stakes in some big oil plays

Remember, you might have to call in your trade on APRJ if you want to get involved.  This is only for some online brokers. When APRJ first caught my eye, I was intrigued, but as I got deeper...

Here’s some of Woody’s email, (I think that women will especially enjoy his parenthetical emphasis).

“Any prick can pick on and belittle another person (especially a LADY). That is NOT becoming of your Liberal Ass! So shut up with the personal attacks and stick to the subject of finances or shut up completely.”

I also got an interesting email from someone who signed off as SDC. As is typical in times when people are so scared, I think SDC’s fingers fumbled on the keyboard as he or she typed.

That’s because only someone who lives on Mars, or watches FOX News only, would transpose the fact that it was Sen. John McCain who was born in a foreign country (Panama) with the fact that Sen. Barack Obama was born within the 52 states.

Here’s what I mean about SDC’s panicked mistake.

“And you have the gall to suggest he [Obama] should be our next president because he's from the Midwest - when he's actually from another country - because we've had 32 years of southern and western presidents? I know - you were only kiddin'...”

Finally, here’s Bogi’s well-considered response to my notion that no matter what the free-market fundamentalists say, you still need Wall Street.

Just for the purpose of managing a business, capital markets are necessary. Theoretically and practically it provides the means by which the resources of a society can be directed to where they are needed and wanted for that society.

Just as important is it results in decentralization of the society's decision-making process and resources. Greed results in any and all societies whether capitalist or communist. Economic freedom is the choice that individuals make as to what they want to do with their money.

Now, in a communist system the corruption is financed exclusively with tax monies of its citizens who cannot refuse to pay taxes because they don't want to finance government corruption. Communism is where the government owns the means of production.

In a capitalist system if the individual doesn't want to use his money to finance private corruption that person can choose not to engage in capital markets.

The USA NO LONGER FITS THIS MOLD, now that its citizens are compelled to pay taxes for the purpose of spending it on corrupt capitalists. THIS IS FASCISM, by definition according to Mussolini, its modern day founder. The USA has a Fascist government.

Hmmm… something tells me Bogi is correct, but it’s very painful to ponder… though we should.

See you Friday.
Andy
