Today we wait.
We wait to see if oil companies are going to take a combined $19 billion hit every single year. We wait to see if alternative energy investment in the U.S. grows to $15 billion every year for the next ten years.
We wait to see if the nightmare that has been the past eight years is finally over.

Believe you me – whether McCain or Obama wins makes no difference. As long as it’s not Bush, the whole world wins.

But what I’m really happy about is that this election is finally coming to a close. All the hate and smear being tossed around from both sides is finally going to stop.

I can’t tell you how disappointed I was to hear death threats being tossed around at the McCain rallies. I hated that people called Obama a Muslim. But the thing I hated the most was that it even mattered to some people.

Just because America had problems in countries where Muslim people reside, doesn’t make all Muslims evil. I love Muslims. In fact, I have some that I highly respect and treasure as friends. I don’t let Al Qaida taint my view of them, because they hate Al Qaida too.

In the end, they bleed the same color as me. And I have a rule that says; if you bleed the same color as me, then you are my equal.

It’s been over 40 years since the civil rights movement of the 60’s. Back then, people thought that African Americans shouldn’t even drink from the same water fountain as whites. Society gets smarter over time. That’s why the civil rights movement even happened. People got smarter and realized that it didn’t matter where a person came from or what color their skin was, in America, they deserve the same rights as anyone else.

It’s one of the things that makes America great.

But this election showed just how real that divide still is.

I can’t tell you how many people refuse to vote for Obama simply because of the color of his skin. As if color told them what kind of leader Obama would be. Whatever happened to ideas? Whatever happened to leadership? Doesn’t that count for anything now days?

And I don’t say this blaming McCain. I never heard him say anything racially wrong about Obama. And some nasty things were said about McCain.

To this day, I still think that McCain is simply posturing to the right to get into the White House. I still think that underneath his posturing, he is the McCain of old. And I have no doubt that he would reach across party lines and bring unity to America.

Because unity is what we now need.

Regardless of who wins tonight – McCain or Obama – let’s make a pact to come together and take this country to a place it hasn’t been in a long, long time. Let’s get smarter and advance society forward. Let’s make a positive difference in this world.

Let’s make a pact to lift our spirits high and conquer the many problems America faces today. And we face many.

The economy is crumbling. Entitlement spending is readying to hit the U.S. budget in a severe way. Things won’t be easy for you and me. Not one bit.

But that doesn’t mean we should let these things get us down. United we conquer, divided we fail.

So let’s just agree to disagree at times.

Let’s leave the hate behind and move into the next four years trying our hardest to make this country an even better place.

Because without you, dear reader, this country is nothing.

Charles
